What You Are Seeing

This display shows the CANAREON instability signal computed from live FinGrid national frequency data. The composite score reflects early instability activity — rising values indicate the grid is exhibiting early warning signatures consistent with approach to a critical transition. This is not a probability of failure. It is a leading indicator derived from the BCI engine. A score approaching 1.0 indicates strong precursor activity. Operator judgment is always required.

The live signal corresponds to the Collapse Risk (Ψ) component of the BCI output pipeline. See the Science page for full methodology.

Green / low scores: system operating within normal oscillatory bounds
Elevated scores: early-stage instability signatures present — monitor
High scores (approaching 1.0): precursor activity consistent with approach to threshold — review

Method & Interpretation
Source: FinGrid real grid frequency dataset
Engine: CANAREON backend analysis pipeline
Method: Oscillation energy + variance + autocorrelation
Output: Composite instability score (0–1)
Meaning of score: Higher values indicate stronger early-warning instability signatures in the observed time-series. It is a normalized analytical signal, not a direct probability of failure.
Status basis: UI-level display thresholds derived from elevated and high-instability exposure.
Current interpretation: Loading...
Visible window: 24H
Analysis execution: CANAREON instability scoring is performed server-side by the backend engine. The frontend displays the resulting outputs only.
Why This Matters
Detects destabilisation before obvious breakdown: Complex systems often degrade through subtle oscillatory changes before failure becomes visible.
Turns raw signals into interpretable outputs: CANAREON converts difficult time-series behavior into status, score, trend, and event visibility.
Supports operator visibility: Early-warning monitoring helps teams recognise instability patterns before they compound.
Event markers in current window: Loading... high-instability points highlighted on the instability chart.
